Play Production

Through stage productions for seniors we create a sense of purpose through a collaborative experience that builds upon group cohesion and trust. Dramatic and written activities allow the participants to gain access to positive aspects of their present lives.

The scripts developed for productions are a collaborative process that is developed through the self generated ideas of the group. I write plays to suit the particular needs and talents of the group members. This changes as the demographics of the group change.

When directing a production I use positive reinforcement, skill building and utilize individual strengths. I place strong emphasis on the interaction and energetic exchange between actor and audience.

Movement is a key component of the work that I do with seniors who due to a variety of circumstances can lose connections with their bodies. Neuroscience shows that the brain is hard wired for movement first and it is movement that informs interpretation. Seniors often report shame regarding loss of body function, attractiveness and cognitive decline. Mindfully incorporating movement in the play space is not only creatively enriching, personally and physically therapeutic but strengthens the brain's capacity for memory and response leading to better brain functioning and overall health.

It is not by muscle speed, or physical dexterity that great things are achieved, but by reflection, force of character, and judgment; in these qualities old age is usually not only not poorer, but even richer.
